Well, I guess we're still rookie parents. We didn't notice that Mr. C had outgrown his bike until last fall when he was sitting on his cousin's bike...all of the sudden, his bike looked sooo small! So, we vowed this spring to get him one that fit him better than the bike his grandparents bought him when he turned 3. Hubby did some research (of course he did!) and found one at a local store that he thought would work well.
Not telling Mr. C, we said we had to do some errands (to which he replied, "Do we have to?"). We stopped at the store and casually went over to the section of the store where the bikes were and had him sit on a couple. He was excited about it, but when I said it was time to leave, he said okay. (I was so pleased about that...he was fine sitting on them, but fine leaving them behind, too.) Then I said, "Or we could buy this one right now." For a minute, he was confused, then a big smile broke out across his face. It was fun to see him ride it all the way through the store to the checkout line! (He's not using training wheels anymore, but they were attached...that allowed for a safe cruising altitude to the check out.) Lots of people around us smiled to see him enjoying such a classic moment.
The really blurry picture below was taken as he realized he would be leaving the store with the bike. In my own excitement, I forgot to put the flash on and it came out blurry. But I still think you can see how excited he was.
