I have wanted to learn to sew for a very long time. Various people have worked with me on projects, but what I learned during that set time was never enough to carry me through the next time I sat down to sew alone. I have set my desire to sew aside many times, but it always comes back.
Last fall I decided to get my sewing machine tuned up. It was a gift from my in-laws many years ago when a local high school dropped its home economics program; it was several years old then. I discovered that it would cost only a few dollars more to get a brand-new machine, so I decided not to get it fixed and instead to purchase a new one when I could. In January, I purchased a Brother CP6500 with the plan to, over time, learn the machine and do some simple projects. And then maybe someday, do some of those bigger projects I dream about.
I don't have a lot of time to spend learning the machine, but the first thing I made were some bean bags for the kids to play with. I was so excited! This small project made me very happy. Next, I made a napkin out of some very special flannel material...the same material from which a dear friend (now deceased) helped me make a nightgown for my then 2-year-0ld niece. And then, something I'd dreamed about doing since I saw the material...I made a reading pillow for my bed. You know, just stuffed with fluff and big enough to support me when I'm in bed reading or watching a movie with hubby. So I made this pillow out of the CUTEST Snoopy material ever and am so, so happy with how it turned out! So, while I'll never be a great seamstress, I'm learning to celebrate these little accomplishments along the way.
